Barry Durham’s official website
Hi, I’m Barry Durham; welcome to my website.
I was a journalist and writer for more than 40 years, a university lecturer for seven, and have had an interest in The Occult - and Witchcraft in particular - for more than 60. As I am now ‘retired’, I write more or less full time.
The stories of The Lancashire Witches have fascinated me since I was a teenager - which is why I felt I had to bring their ‘descendents’ into my writing.
I also love Lancashire and my birth town of Manchester where I grew up, so again, they feature in my stories - plus the area in which I now live, the lovely village of Chipping and its wonderful surrounding countryside.
I have been writing, and self-publishing, regularly since 2010, but the Covid pandemic of 2020, and the lockdowns that went with it had a curious effect on my writing. The main character of my Supernatural Crime Novels has always been a Detective Chief Inspector called Alfred Stone, but try as I might I could not come up with a new
story in which he starred.
What did happen though, was inspiration for a spin-off urban fantasy series aimed at Young Adults (14+).
‘The Conway Chronicles’ begins with a trilogy which I wrote faster than anything before. I started the first ‘The Last Werewolf’ in February 2021; this was followed by ‘Elf-Girl’ in July 2021 and finally ‘Witch-Haven’ in November 2021. They came out in paperback at regular intervals between July 2021 and May 2022 with a combined ebook and kindle edition also in May 2022.
